Another draw from the Drinks by the Dram Cognac Advent Calendar, reveals another Hine Cognac. This time, they have chosen to hide an Appellation Fine Champagne Contrôlée VSOP, a blend of around twenty eaux-de-vie from Grande and Petite Champagne grapes, behind door number 18.
Nose: opening the petite bottle, my nose shied away from the sweet glucose syrup scent. A lot of sweet, (over)ripe fruit like apples and juicy pears and a hint of oranges
Palate: again the start with the sweetness. Creamy nougat with hazelnuts and Turkish Delight slowly take over after a while, until fresh limes and apricots, accompanied by passion fruit and red berries stay a while longer
Finish: seamless transition from the palate to the finish here. After a moment or two, the berries diminish into autumn-y wet leaves and mushrooms, that will stay with you for the remainder of the evening.
Conclusion: Sweet and fruity with an autumn like finish. If that’s what you are looking for, look no further, you have found a match. Is it my thing? Nah.
