.benromach – 10yo

The Benromach 10yo has always been a welcome guest in our house. Regularly, with a new Benromach release, we get a sample of the latest release, and make a update on our note, comparing it with the previous one, and more often than not this leads to an update of the whisky-shelve as well. Every single time, I am amazed by the constant balance and quality of the dram, and how she stays on par during the years…

Nose: Creamy with a hint of peat and cereal. Citrus-fruity from oranges and marmalade, sweet-fruity from cherries and warm apples. A spicy hint of cinnamon and ginger with a touch of wood and walnuts.
Palate: a firm body, with sweet vanilla, caramel and toffee notes with a spicy white pepper and cinnamon coating
Finish: a medium long finish, leaving it medium dry, a nice liquorice / vanilla sweetness and a gentle touch of smoke

Conclusion: Why is this so lovely? I quite like this. She is rather sweet, has a firm bite, and with a drop of water the freshness and citrus notes come out. I will be on the lookout for more Benromach products.

More info: this whisky has been composed from a mix of 80% ex-Bourbon barrels and 20% ex-Sherry hogsheads. One year before bottling this has been married to fully mature in first fill ex-Oloroso casks.
